All Jacks' Meet the All Blacks

Jen and I spent 3 days in Wellington. It was our token trip to the North Island and it was a great time.

On Monday we flew from Chch to Windy Wellington and checked in to our hotel. We stayed in the Clock Tower room. It is an old clock tower that has been converted to a small apartment. It was very cool. Anyway, we are walking around, checking things out when we come around to corner and see a bunch of security guards and people selling AB gear. What's up? The All Blacks are promoting their upcoming game, and are coming to sign autographs in 20 minutes. No kidding. Eat yer heart out Reuben. Of course we hung around and got all of the important signatures: McCaw, Carter, Mealamu, Jack, Gear, Hayman, Kelleher, Williams, and Jerry "I like to Pee".

We spent Monday evening hanging out with our British friends Keith and Tracy. They are great fun, and always know where to get a cheap pint!!! Good on ya, Keith.

Tuesday was spent at Te Pa Pa (NZs National Museum). They had some terrific displays on, including a Britten V1000, and an amazing LoTR display. We spent over 2 hours just looking at the LoTR stuff. We also managed to hook up with Vic, one of our touch teammates who has moved up to Wellington. We had a few beers at the Mac's Brewery. Oh, the sweet smell of fresh beer.

Our final day's highlight was a visit to the Parliament buildings. We got a pretty good tour of the joint from bottom to top, and I must say it was well worth the free admission. We managed to do some decent shopping/walking and really enjoyed our time in Wellington.

Couple thoughts on Wellington. It is only slightly smaller by population that Chch, but it is way more compact. Walking from one side to the CBD to the other was really easy. It is also much more cosmopolitan than Chch. No surprise there though, since it houses the federal government and many corporate head quarters.

Finally, on our last day in Wellington we had coffee and did some shopping with ABs Byron Kelleher, Anton Oliver and Kevin Mealamu. They seem like good guys. Ok Ok, so maybe that is not exactly what happened. Truth is we sat in the same coffee shop, and then they followed us to Dick Smith when the coffee shop closed down, but its kinda like we did, no?
